Questions.
Straight answers on ownership, pricing, coverage, and delivery.
What does Mantle Place deliver?
Site-context spatial data products for a curator-specified area of interest: aerial imagery, vector basemap, elevation, building massing where mapped, and structured vector layers. Core files ship with the order; every other format in the catalog (DXF, OBJ, glTF, IFC, LandXML, and more) generates on request in your vault at no extra cost, ready for the digital content creation tools AECO teams already use.
Who is Mantle Place for?
AECO professionals: Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations. Land developers are included under Operations. The platform serves the common spatial data need across the disciplines that collaborate on a project’s full lifecycle.
How does pricing work?
Transparent area-based pricing. A base floor price scales with AOI size only. Providers, resolution, and fidelity are locked at defaults in v1; output formats are never a pricing axis. Curators see the price update live as they adjust the area. Pricing is deterministic at draw time. No quote forms, no enterprise sales.
Can I use the data commercially?
Yes. Every order ships with full license attribution. Rasters, meshes, and extrusions from ODbL-licensed sources are delivered as Produced Works (rasterized, meshed, or baked so the original database structure cannot reasonably be extracted back); share-alike does not propagate to Produced Works. The structured vector layers are the exception: they are ODbL-licensed database extracts, so share-alike applies if you adapt and redistribute that vector data as a database. Attribution obligations remain binding and are preserved in deliverable metadata.
What sources do you pull from?
v1 pulls from five open-data sources: Protomaps for global vector basemap features, NAIP for sub-meter US aerial imagery, Sentinel-2 for 10 m satellite imagery everywhere else (selected automatically), Mapterhorn for global terrain (Terrarium-RGB PMTiles wrapping Copernicus GLO-30 and finer regional DEMs), and Overture Maps / OpenStreetMap for building footprints and vector layers. Commercial imagery providers are planned for v2.
Do I need a subscription?
No. Purchases are one-time. Every bundle you buy is sealed into a permanent Cloudflare R2 vault and re-downloadable forever. No subscription, no expiry, no renewal.
What formats do you deliver?
GeoTIFF rasters for QGIS, ArcGIS, and analysis. DXF contours and LandXML surfaces for AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit workflows. IFC4 BIM site models for Revit, Archicad, and Vectorworks. OBJ for Rhino, SketchUp, and Blender. glTF (GLB) and USDZ for web viewers, Unreal, and Unity. GeoPackage, GeoJSON, Shapefile, and FlatGeobuf vector layers, plus PMTiles and Cesium terrain tiles. Core files ship with the order; the rest of the catalog generates on request in your vault. Every format is included with every order at no extra cost. Formats are never a pricing axis.
Is international coverage available?
Yes. Vector basemap (Protomaps), elevation (Mapterhorn), and building footprints (Overture Maps) are global. Imagery is tiered: sub-meter NAIP aerial imagery across the US, 10 m Sentinel-2 satellite imagery everywhere else; the best source for your area is selected automatically. Sub-meter international imagery from commercial providers is a v2 target.
Does it work with Unreal Engine?
Yes. Unreal Engine is the foremost first-party delivery surface in v1. The Mantle Place Importer, a first-party plugin validated on UE 5.7 and currently in early access, brings your bundle into the editor as a georeferenced, editable Landscape, terrain mesh, or static mesh, with the imagery draped for you. The plugin imports owned files from disk; it never streams from Mantle Place and never re-processes the pipeline in-engine. A request for different processing is a new web order.
Do I own the data, or is it streamed?
You own it. Every bundle is downloaded to disk. Purchased bundles are sealed into a permanent vault you re-download forever. Nothing streams at runtime, there is no token to expire, and there is no platform dependency once the files are on your machine.
Can I edit the terrain in Unreal Engine?
Yes. The terrain imports as a native, editable Unreal Engine Landscape, terrain mesh, or static mesh, so you can sculpt, paint, and build on it like any other asset.
Is the free tier really the same product?
Yes. Areas of 2 km² and under are $0 and run the exact same pipeline as paid orders: same data, same resolution, no watermark. Free bundles stay in your vault for 30 days and you can hold up to 5 at a time; purchased bundles never expire.
Do I need an account to order?
You can explore the globe, draw an area, and see the live price without an account. Checkout, free or paid, takes a verified account, so your vault has an owner you can come back to.
How fast is delivery, and how large can my area be?
Most orders are ready in minutes; large areas can take up to a couple of hours. Live delivery percentiles are published on the System Status page. Areas of interest up to 64 km² are supported in v1.
